The University Town Center Improvement District (“District”) is an independent special district, created pursuant to and existing under the provisions of Chapter 2026-222, Florida Statutes, and established by House Bill 4091, enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida. The District includes within its boundaries approximately 1,469.651 acres located on the western side of the intersection of I-75 and University Parkway that extends into both Sarasota and Manateecounties, Florida.

The property owners within the University Town Center area have developed and redeveloped the commercial, retail, dining, and entertainment areas with a comprehensive water control plan that provides drainage and water control infrastructure and protection to the commercial properties in the area, and also the surrounding adjacent commercial and residential properties. The flood control measures and mitigation have also facilitated the creation of recreational facilities that attract local, national, and international sports and tourism activities to the region.
